Latest News Report:
12/02/2011 - Race Report by Craig Hume
Saturday, and the weather was perfect for the first round of the WPMC Short Circuit season.
All the drivers were raring to get started after a long break from the racing. It was time to see what the cars and drivers were capable of. With it being a new season, all drivers would start on equal points and would all be giving it 110% to get the early jump in the race for the championship.
Qualifying:
The drivers decided that we would run both bus stops for this meeting, so there were a lot of nervous drivers waiting to see what the difference would be with this extra section added. There were a few teething issues with cars missing it due to it being our first time using it. Overall the drivers quickly got into the routine and the times came tumbling down. Craig's car decided it was not in the mood and stopped on the exit of bus stop one. Eventually getting going again to record a record lap time of 9 minutes odd. Johann in the mean time was getting to grips with his new car and had a few spectacular moments. One in particular ended with him backwards into the tyres. Tanya also gave herself a scare under braking for bus stop 2 and ended up doing some grass cutting. Final top 3 were Arno, DJ and Ryno.
Race 1:
This was the moment the drivers had been waiting for. Time to go racing. It turned out to be a thrilling race with the drivers fighting for positions all over the show. Unfortunately for Phillip his raced ended early with car problems making him park the car on the entrance to Shell corner. Stacey was once again starting to get to grips with the racing but unfortunately pushed to hard on the entrance to the bus stop and had to watch the rest of the race from there. A close battle between Arno and Dj finally ended with DJ taking the win in the last turn.
They were followed by Ryno, Tanya, Johann and a struggling Craig.
Race 2:
All the drivers worked hard during the lunch break, sorting out any early season niggles and looked forward to Race 2. Unfortunately for DJ it was to be an extremely short race which ended with him not even able to get off the line. This was due to axle issues and must have been very frustrating. Luckily its early season and there is still more than sufficient time to make up for early losses. Arno was now able to go on his way to an easy victory with Ryno finishing in 2nd. Meanwhile Phillip, Johann and Tanya were having a royal battle for 3rd place. Finally crossing the line in those positions after 10 laps of being stuck together. It was definitely the battle of the day. Congratulations to all of them on a very entertaining race.
Race 3.
DJ was quickly able to make up for positions lost in race 2 and was working hard on getting back up to Arno. Meanwhile Tanya and Johann resumed their fight from race 2 and were once again stuck together. Unfortunately Phillip was missing from the grid due to a problem on his car. However Tanya and Johann's battle came to a early premature end when Johann decided to lock up the tyres which sent him into a very well handled 360. This gave Tanya the break she needed and she sped off into the distance. Johann in trying to catch back up ended up doing exactly the same spin on the following lap. This time stalling the car and letting Craig through.
DJ's race 2 problems came back to haunt him when he once again had axle issues that put an end to his push to the front. The end results for race 3: Arno, Ryno, Tanya, Craig, Johann and Stacey.
It was a brilliant days racing and it can only get better. Stacey is steadily getting to grips with her car, while Johann has come on leaps and bounds in his new car. The next racel should also see the introduction of 2 new drivers to the Formula M family.
Tanya should be anxiously awaiting Round 2 where her car should be a real force to be reckoned with.
We hope to see you all on the 5 of March for Round 2.
